end of story

so..the end of the story is that my father may not have been around for me as a kid but he is sure doing his best to be the best poppy he can be!
At this time in my life I am so thankful to be able to say that my father is one of my best friends. I have made a big, big effort to spend as much time with him as possible. I have forgiven any pain that I may have felt and I want to know everything about both of my parents so I can be the best possible parent.
Guess what, I get to go and run for 3 hours today. My Aunt is here to watch the kids.
This area is VERY hilly and its going to be hot.
How thankful do I feel?

It probably is a generation thing. I've never been told those 3 words either, not even now. My dad always said it's the actions that matter...but hearing it would have been so great.

Lisa, it must definitely be a generational thing because it seems to cut across cultures, too. My mother is Japanese and I have yet to hear those words.

I am glad you were able to receive this affirmation from your dad before he leaves the Earth. I believe it did both of you good to break this gap. I can't seem to do so myself with my mother no matter how I have tried.

Without hearing those words from a parent, here is a gaping hole in our psyche. It can only be filled by hearing, and thus truly knowing, our parents love us.

Thanks for telling us about this. Love is not a sign of weakness it is a strength that cannot be measured.
