We can still do the 508.

Hi there folks -- it's your celebrity guest blogger here with a non-update post.

Lisa may not have reached the finish line at 29 Palms, California* but we can give her a 508 that she'd much rather attain.

On Friday's blog post we announced that Lisa's 810 has raised over $500,000 for AIDS Orphans Rising, the incredible organization that works to shelter, feed and educate children in Africa and elsewhere so they can become healthy, self-reliant adults. Since 100% of donations go directly to the children -- not a penny to salaries, rent, administration and the like -- it means that those half a million dollars will go directly to helping these orphans.

Let's complete the 508 by raising just 8,000 more dollars by the time Lisa gets home. Send the news to all your friends, acquaintances and family members and ask them to donate whatever they can afford. $10, $100, $1000, $1,000,000 - any amount brings us closer to $508,000.

With the donations that folks have been sending via the internet just during the time that Lisa's been riding is $420.00. We can raise $7,580 within 24 hours if everyone does a little outreach. And of course, if you haven't had the chance to donate yet, you can do so here.

Thanks! And like Will Abrams wrote to Lisa in a great comment -- "All the children don't care about the desert cup, just survival. You have ensured this!"

I am so proud of you. The most important thing is your health - your little ones need a healthy Lisa.

Rest up and feel better, then take a vacation and come stay with us in New York.

I know the feeling of disappointment. It is not failure...just a detour.
Much love,

Why be disappointed? You accomplished your goal - 500k for the children!

You have always taught us to not completly break ourselves down for the sake of an event. You did the right thing.

We love you and support you and I am incredibly proud of you!!!

Please don't feel badly. You are super human but not made out of metal!!!

Oh my Lisa I have been gone for the past 5 days and have not been on the computer or able to check on how it was going.
I will call you but know you are loved and that I do know you must be feeling low, down and out but also know you have the courage of a great LION and it took this to even show up.

Love you
Mel

I was introduced to your blog from a mutual friend of ours. Since then, I check it from time to time because of the impact that you seem to have on communities and the world. Since reading about your latest accomplishment (508) here is what I know with certainty:

100% of the funds go to the kids
100% of those kids love you
100% of those kids thank you
100% of those kids want to live
100% of those kids have a shot
100% of those kids MAY bounce back
100% of us mortals support you
100% of those kid’s folks thank you
100% of your efforts are angelic
100% of those kids have an edge now….all because of you!

Keep up the great things that you do. It is truly motivating to others and certainly appreciated by the kids of AIDS Orphans Rising.

I'm going to the website to donate right now!

By the way, that little girl of yours (Annabella?) is a sweetheart!

Mike…a new fan!

ONLY 420 plus miles!? Lisa, that may feel like failure to you but to me that is just amazing!!! That is astonishing. Most people can't even ride their bike a few miles let alone hundreds of miles!!!! And you do it even while you suffer from asthma or are in pain!! You are human and you do need to take care of yourself. You push yourself CONSTANTLY. Guve yourself credit for what you have accomplished. And it sounds like you plan to ride the other 68 miles at a different time. You did not give up. You just rearranged. Your skill and determination continue to amaze me.

I make ornaments and you achieve physical and mental feats that I can only imagine. i am just shaking my head. I know it had to be VERY hard for you to stop but . . . 420 plus miles. Wow.
Love, Meredith
